By default, you simulate from launch, and by default, you “purchase” 15 minutes of sim time (but, as I’ll explain below, you can buy more). The mod Kerbal Construction Time gives you an option to simulate any aspect of a flight before you commit the funds to build a vessel. How does this work? What’s being simmed here? Is it in anyway accurate? I was already pretty much in awe of the Apollo guys before playing the game, trying to do this stuff in real life without a reload game button. Is there a good tutorial somewhere.īuzz Aldrin has a PHd in orbital mechanic from MIT, which makes hims even smarter than Scott Manley, and hell of a lot smart than myself. I understand the theory but damned if I can figure out the physics behind it to apply to the game. I was trying to figure out a way to launch directly from Kerbin to the Mun and avoid spending the fuel to orbit Kerbin. But Eric said I should head 90? I am confused don’t you want to go opposite the way the planet is heading to maximize the relative velocities.Īlso is there a way to set Kerbin as a target like you can with any other object space? Interestingly enough MechJeb wasn’t a help the return from moon function was giving me crazy results so I just experimented with maneuver nodes (and reloading). I thought you should head W (270) from Mun since it is going 90 and then steer toward Kerbin. I now see the reason for using dedicated landers. My lander was the 3rd stage and ended up being too tall 8.6 meters. I was afraid it would be a real bitch so I procrastinated trying but the landing wasn’t super tough, maybe 1/2 dozen attempts.
