All I wanted was a blank sheet of digital paper to scribble my notes on. I had a premium subscription and even owned their stylus, back when I still used my tablet.īut Evernote's growth strategy did not fit my notes approach. For years, it was a reliable digital notebook. In its early days, bolstered by VC money, big product dreams, and mobile hype, Evernote was an easy-to-use note-taking app that synced easily between my phone and computer. In the Mac app’s case, you also have the option of buying it outright for $50.Poor Evernote, an app I had such fondness for ten years ago, died a slow death of annoyance and declining functionality. To continue using either one afterward, you’ll need to sign up for a monthly or yearly subscription, which is charged for each platform independently - there’s no combo subscription: Think of as a mix of DEVONthink and Evernote, but not as bloated as the latter, more integrated with iOS than the former, and nicer looking than both of them.īoth the iOS and Mac versions of Keep It are free to download and offer a 14-day free trial after signing up. Everything you do in the iOS app syncs with the Mac version and vice versa.Īs our friend Federico Viticci wrote in his list of must-have apps for 2018: They can also be individually encrypted with a password, if you’re keeping sensitive information within Keep It. Saved items can be tagged, color-labeled, and kept in folders and/or bundles. If you’re a stickler about organization, Keep It’s got that in spades too. Specific searches can be saved for later reuse. Once something is captured, the contents of that item are easily searchable later - right down to any recognizable text within PDFs and images - with suggestions appearing as you type. Like Evernote and its ilk, Keep It is a combination of notebook, scrapbook, and organizer that can handle just about anything you throw at it - web pages, images, PDFs (with full OCR support), text documents (Markdown, rich text, and plain text), videos, audio files, notes of your own making…you name it. Yesterday over at our sister site The Sweet Setup, we selected the iOS app Keep It as the best replacement for Evernote in terms of doing long-term research, especially on iPad.

I'm sure the Win Terminal team have their hands tied (well, I sure hope that is the reasons, let me put that way!) Windows users are not Apply users, and are not as forgiving. I guess MS want the application store to be the only legitimate source of applications (looking hungry and envious at Apple's business model), I guess it at some point make sense, but it's also a dangerous path. Well, I guess the only explanation for those so many non-reasonable choices in regards to installation and dependencies must be market-/political related. Otherwise, I am happy with ConEmu which I have been using for many years. Make it easy to get hold of this tool so that we can use it. I needed the console on my work machine not on my personal machine. Because, yesterday I tried to install this console at my work machine and guess what, store is configured with my Hotmail account because it needs a Microsoft account which is not my work account and I had the option to install the console on my personal PC which was at home. as power users we are not impressed by the decision to choose store as the primary distribution model.Last time I checked, visual studio had the capability to produce exe in release mode which is duly signed. Hence you don't need to spend months of testing. An installer is an overkill and please avoid it. Power tools like console do not need an installer. I'm sorry criticism seems unkind, but these are legitimate concerns. I don't have time at work to install all the VS necessities to compile this and try to use it on Windows Server or I would, and I also don't understand the Windows 10 target audience, and I was legitimately curious if there's something I don't know that would make them the first targets. I wasn't being unkind, either I was asking a serious question, and making a few serious statements. You say that letting someone else distribute it would save time and effort, (somone else being GitHub?) yet that's not what was done first? We recognize that it’s extremely important for a huge subset of our potential users, but we are prioritizing features and performance and bug fixes first. Letting somebody else do the distribution and installation frees up an entire month of engineering time otherwise spent building and testing an installer on all of our supported configurations. Here’s the deal: this is a preview release, and given our available resources we have to make sure we’re investing them wisely.
